Hello ! This is my first deck on TESL that I used to get in legend one week after I started the game. The deck started more agressive because I was coming from Hearthstone (and so my mindset was different) and also because I lacked the late game legendaries in. Originally it was curving out at 5 mana with 3 Shornhelm Champion . I have improved the deck and added more lategame once I got the cards I wanted. The gameplan has also slowed down a bit and the deck can now sustain longer games. this helped me reach Legend #30 around the end of august 2016.

What is midrange sorcerer ?

Midrange Sorcerer (“ward spammer” ?) is a value based deck that aims to dominate the board with the very efficient trade capabilities of ward creatures while also generating card draw to keep up the pressure into the lategame.

Midrange Sorcerer is usually good at fighting control decks and it usually suffers against agressive decks because of the low amount of defensive options.
It is the best deck at abusing wards which allow to get free trades as long as you have some board presence.

Meta : Right now Midrange sorcerer is not very popular in the meta driven by assassin and control mage, with some spellswords and archers around. However it is completely viable to push for Legend and you shouldn’t shy away because Midrange sorcerer has been put in the tier 3 in the meta snapshot ^^

Core strategy :
Abuse wards to get free trades. Don’t break runes early on unless necessary.
Daggerfall Mage gives a very valuable Tome of Alteration. these fuel the deck into the lategame. Master of Arms becomes a 8/8 summon : draw 2 cards when you have 2 Tomes in your graveyard. I used to run 2 Masters of Arms but I have cut one because of the common agressivity of green decks that require more immediate answers.
Iliac Sorcerer is one of your win conditions (seriously) While unimpressive on his own he can grow insanely with some help. Once I have one shotted a 30 hp archer with a 32 attack Iliac. A trick I use often is to proc his ward myself with a firebolt. If you do this twice in the same turn (put a ward again) he can really do surprise bursts. Iliac synergises very well with the weapons provided by Crown Quartermaster and Dunmer Nightblade

Shornhelm Champion : Solid snowbally win condition if you can get him going, he is however very slow and tends to get either ignored or silenced. So be careful how and when you play him :)

High King Emeric : While you can play the deck on a budget without him, he is a great addition that provides either removal or lethal reach on top of having a great 5/5 ward body.

Tech options :
Some choose to tech in board clears (Fire Storm / Ice Storm to survive against other tempo decks.
However I take a more tempo orientated approach by including more early game and snowball potential. To make up for the loss of late game weight I’ve included a lot of card draw.Tome of Alteration and Elusive Schemer shenanigans allow the deck to not run out of options too quickly.

Fire Bolt : Low value card but it is necessary to stop early game snowball creatures (Crystal Tower Crafter, Descendant of Alkosh,Daring Cutpurse, Baandari Bruiser, Murkwater savage).

Cunning Ally : Does the same as Fire Bolt but also provides a solid 3/3 body on top of it. Great value card. The likehood of getting a Fire Bolt is slighlty lower then 80%

Night Shadow : He provides a much needed life drain in a deck with little recovery options. He helps win split lane races against other tempo decks. Night Talon Lord is more impressive in control builds but he is too slow to save us from aggressive decks.

Shrieking Harpy : No board clears means win the board or suffer. The harpies help to recover the board or even race by stalling the most dangerous creature. Green based tempo decks like archer and assassin often try to split race this deck, and harpies are a great answer to gain time.

Evermore Steward : This little guy can block Odahviing for two whole turns ^^ Because we keep making great trades with our wards, the opponents often will try to rush us and we have to defend ourselves. Evermore Steward is the best cheap taunt for this deck. He also synergises well with our weapons.

Nahagliiv : both a win condition and a huge guard, Nahagliiv can often give nightmares to unprepared decks. He is very vulnerable to Mantikora and Leaflurker but immun to any targetted spell removal like Piercing Javelin

Playing on a budget : crafting legendaries
Start by crafting the Daggerfall mages, they are very important to the deck’s strategy.
Turn your avatar to Breton. At level 20 and 32 you will get one breton legendary (this is how I got my Emeric)
Supreme Atromancer and Nahagliiv can both be replaced. They are good in a variety of decks so choose depending on what else you will want to play. Shocking Wamasu is a very cheap alternative to lategame legendaries for new players. Lucien Lachance is the least important legendary in the deck to get.
I am f2p myself. Arena gives great rewards so it’s not that hard to get a deck if you focus on it and don’t waste efforts on others. (except $cout decks which costs 2 legs a a liver ^^)

I hope you like the deck and have fun with it. Feel free to comment :)

Changelog :

02/09/2016 : -1 Wardcrafter ; -1 Shornhelm Champion
+1 Shadowfen Priest ; +1 Night Shadow
Reasons : Shornhelms champions aren’t doing much work in this scout/mage meta. They have always been weak vs agro decks now they also feel weak vs slow.
A second Night Shadow will help against the increasingly popular split lane racing meta. A third Shadowfen feels really necessary today I faced almost only spellsword decks :s While spellsword token gets less popular in high legend, a lot of people seem to play it to ladder fast in this beginning of 2nd season.

04/09/2016 : Huge update. I’ve merged my control sorcerer attemps with my former midrange deck to make a hybrid version to try to counter the meta full of mages and token decks. It has proven a hard task as they do not seem to share any vulnerabilities whatsoever. I tried x3 Restless Templar and Goldbrand then cut them again.

I’ve added Preserver of the Root, Odahviing and a Blood Magic Lord to increase the lategame while cutting the too conditional Master of Arms.

+3 Tree Minder to try to ramp big fatties faster. I removed Haunting Spirit

I got early Nahagiliivs with tree minders’ ramp and that destroyed control mages before their t10 which seems the only way to beat them because their triple mantikoras seal the deal after t10.
I added 2 ice storms to deal with the ladder full of token decks (it seems there are 50% mages, 40% various tokens, 10% other decks).

I need some advices from scout or sorcerer players, how do you deal with the control mages ? I tried to create a hybrid ramp sorcerer that kinda plays like scout but with the benefits of blue. Right now I didn’t manage to make it to legend yet (granted we are only 4 days into the new month) I’m stuck at rank 1.

I really would like to try this deck but sadly im missing Emeric Nahagliiv and Lucien . Maybe there are some subs i could use ?

Hi ! You can try +1 Shadowfen, +1 Shornhelm and +1 Mumify (decent Lucian replacement)

A 2nd Master of Arms would also be very good but only against non agressive decks. He is a little underwhelming against scouts with mass silences however, these will silence the daggerfall mages and you might not get a sufficient supply of alteration tomes to feed more masters of arms. However if your meta is control mage heavy by all means get a second master of arms :)
