This is my Pure Control Mage deck. You may notice seeminly unconventional choices, which I will attempt to cover below:
MULLIGAN ALWAYS: Cards with Prophecy
MULLIGAN NEVER: Daggerfall Mage, Studious Greybeard, Ayrenn
2/3 Execute: Execute is the one card that I either end up wasting on a token or never get a chance to utilize most often, so I cut one for an Arrow Storm. There’s a lot of tokens right now.
Studious Greybeard: One of the things this game lacks as a whole is a system of card selection. This is the best we’ve got, and it does a halfway decent job. May get cut.
Fire Breath: it’s second and third iterations make up for a lackluster first.
College/Orb: College gives you fantastic value and possibly game-changing removal. Orb draws extra cards vs. control matchups.
Winter’s Grasp: Sometimes, you need just one more turn to stabilize with a real board wipe.
