Missing some cards I’d like to try putting in it, but this deck has served me well as is.
Strategy: Early game guard up the shadow lane with Dark Guardian or Hive Defender and try to push the opponent into playing in the field lane: trade liberally, of course trying for your classic 2-for-1 control strategy. Against Red, feel free to maintain a life advantage to block Triumphant Jarl, but otherwise avoid attacking face.
Gather components for Falkreath Defiler + Night Mother combo using Dagi-Raht mystics for a little more consistency in getting Night Mother. Try to draw out your opponent’s actions/silences with haunting spirits and strong guards. When you suspect that they have no removal, play Defiler in the shadow lane. If he survives until next turn, you can play Night Mother and activate it in the shadow lane. The Target has guard, so it doesn’t get cover. Use this to start generating value with Defiler, summoning whatever creature is needed. If nothing particular is needed, I tend to prioritize guard creatures.
If you find yourself missing Night Mother, mummify is a great alternative if the enemy has a big creature in the Defiler’s lane. I would say that even getting defiler to proc once is great value, and if you mummify the opponent’s creature, you’ll have two opportunities.
Once the engine starts going, you can freely trade your guard creatures in what normally wouldn’t be great trades, since you can resummon them once they die. Doing this with Mantikora is an amazing feeling. Remember that if Defiler’s lane is full, the creature he brings back will summon to the opposite lane. Use this to your advantage for Mantikora placement.
Changes I might like to make:
+2 Ravenous Hunger -2 Kvatch Guard
+1 mummify -1 Stalwart Ally
+1 Preserver of the Root -1 Stalwart Ally
Maybe -1 Mundus Stone +1 BML
Fitting In Dawn’s Wrath might be useful as well, or Dawnbreaker if we start seeing even more vampires.
