I streamed some amount of on twitch. I played this deck in top 100 of legend going back and forth (the top was #24).

It’s a relatively cheap (goldbrand and atromancer are given to you for free in campaign, so the “real” crafting cost is much lower than displayed) cotrolmage deck for anyone willing to try it but not having the soul gems for the “perfect build”. I will copypaste a few points from the reddit post regarding the deck.

What to play if I don’t have cards

If you happen not to have relevant rares (telvanni/high rock summoner) it’s possible to play Shrieking Harpy, Auridon Paladin, Wardcrafter instead.

What to cut if I have better cards

The two most cuttable cards imo are Auridon Paladin and Cruel Firebloom. In fact it’s possible that even a harpy or wardcrafter works better in that slot.
Optimally you would like to fit a lategame card in these two slots, but there aren’t good non-legend options available.
Other than that you should substitute the card with a similar cost and function, i.e. Firestorm -> Dawn’s wrath, Expert Atromancer -> Nahkriin, Dragon Priest.

What to play if I have good epics

Desperate conjuring, Immolating Blast, Dawn’s Wrath, Indoril Archmage, Divayth Fyr, Daggerfall Mage, Miraak, Dragonborn, Ayrenn.
Note that some of these cards are not included in the optimal list. Try to not go overboard with lategame and keep balance. It’s safe to include lategame cards into the two mentioned cardslots (firebloom/auridon) but further from that you should keep the same cardcount of greedy cards.

Good/Bad matchups

The matchups are not that different from a fully built controlmage (I suggest to use Blackfall’s list). Main difference is that the deck is a little bit antiaggro-heavy. It’s really hard to win controlmage mirror if your opponent has an idea on how to play it. Scout ramp matchup is also worse than it should be with a complete deck (still fine overall).
If you have two lategame epics/legends in that slots you should do fine.

Why should I craft these epics/legends

The main reason I picked 2x Shimmering Peddller 3x Mantikora 2x Ice storm 1x Odahviing in the list as epic/legends of choice is that they are likely to be safe crafts. Practically every controlmage list uses Mantikoras and icestorms. Every controldeck plays odahviing (and it’s a good card to play in ramp too). I can see somebody arguing over peddlers, but it’s most likely also a good craft. Also I think it’s possible to get them as a racial reward if you’re High Elf. Eventually you can convert the deck into a good version if you happen to open/craft other legendaries.
