An effective Spellsword deck that new players can easily build towards as it’s mostly common cards. I limited the deck to 0 epics and only 2 of certain rares, with the exception of 3 Divine Fervors. You get a free one at level 9, so you only need to craft 2. Divine Fervor is flexible as it’s key in several decks such as all forms of Spellsword, aggro Mage, token Crusader, and many aggro and midrange Monk builds.

Mulligan & Strategy

You must have early game creatures in your opening hand so you can curve out effectively. This is not a deck that comes back from a losing position. You need to grab the board early and hold on to it. This means taking trades that are necessary to preserve the board while also pushing as much face damage as possible.

Wind Keep Spellsword is your premium early game keep as it adds a lot of pressure on its own. It’s very easy for your opponent to value trade with your Fifth Legion Trainer, so make sure you have a good plan if you want to start snowballing with it early. Going second for the Elixir of Magicka and/or having cards like Kvatch Soldier help protect it early.

This deck wants to win quickly as it cannot stand up against most other decks’ lategame, so keep in mind that you’re usually on a clock.

Weak Cards

Pack Wolf isn’t a very good card on its own, but it does have synergy with Divine Fervor and Resolute Ally so I included it over Imperial Legionnaire. You could play Imperial Legionnaire instead if you prefer just having the better creature without the synergy.

Northpoint Captain has a similar problem; it wants a Divine Fervor or two in play to get real value although it’s probably more playable without Fervor than Pack Wolf is.

Resolute Ally can win you games if its random effect triggers, and it can lose you games when it fails. With this list it will trigger about 2/3rds of the time which makes it worth including, but this card needs to be cut as you refine the deck and include more cards that aren’t Willpower.

Midnight Sweep and Imperial Reinforcements are also cards that gain synergy from Divine Fervor but they’re playable on their own. Midnight Sweep especially doesn’t feel very exciting to play out of hand most of the time but it can protect some of your threats and most importantly it gets you free creatures on the board if you draw it from the prophecy. That won’t happen very often thought. Imperial Reinforcements is a card that I’m personally not a huge fan of since it’s not great value for 4 magicka, and often you don’t have an empty lane to get all 4.
